Wild forest hikes
Old-growth spruce and beech, off the marked paths, at the pace of the slowest storyteller.
Padina–Peștera · Bucegi · Romania · 45°24′ N 25°26′ E · 1 546 m
We're at arrivals with your name on a card — two hours later, boots on. Three days in the Bucegi: hiking, foraging and wild food, then warm smoked cheese at a sheepfold at 1 800 m. Guided by people who grew up on these trails. Wild, never reckless.
Explore the Carpathians
The Carpathians hold some of Europe's last wild forests — home to brown bears, wolves and lynx, and to shepherds who still make cheese the way their grandparents did. Most travellers never find the way in: there is no counter at the airport, no agency for the wild. So we built a base.

Base Bucegi — Padina · Peștera
Padina sits at 1 546 m in a glacial valley under the Bucegi plateau. Alpine meadows, limestone walls, and weather that writes the day's plan for you.
Ialomița Cave and its monastery guard the valley's gate. Below, the gorges of Horoaba and Tătarul cut the white stone into corridors of cold air.
Two hours above the base the plateau opens: the Sphinx, Babele, and the long, silent walk to Omu peak at 2 505 m.
Experiences

Old-growth spruce and beech, off the marked paths, at the pace of the slowest storyteller.

Learn what the forest feeds you — porcini, chanterelles, and the ones you leave alone.

Tea, tinctures and seasoning, picked from the meadow you just walked through.

First light on the plateau, mist in the gorges, chamois on the walls.

Long dinners of what the valley grows, smokes and ferments. Seconds are mandatory.

A working stână: how bulz, urdă and cașcaval are made — and eaten warm, on the spot.

Chamois in the scree, tracks of bear and lynx, and the etiquette of sharing their mountain.

Mountain stories, a careful glass of țuică, live songs until the embers give up.
Three ways up
Every trip runs on the same base: local guides, real food, honest mountains.
« See you at the base »
For independent hikers who want a real base, a local briefing and one guided day — then the freedom to roam.
« We plan, you walk »
The full valley experience without logistics: guided every day, fed every evening, surprised at least once.
« Airport to summit »
Land in Bucharest, land at the base. Everything handled, all eight experiences, a photographer at golden hour.

Accommodation
From honest mountain cabanas at Padina to boutique guesthouses under the pass — we book where we'd sleep ourselves. Wood fires, thick blankets, and breakfast that assumes you're climbing.
Team
Nobody here learned the mountain from a manual. Your guides grew up on it.

Our story
We grew up between Bran and Moroeni, with the Bucegi in every window. When friends from abroad visited, the same thing kept happening: they had flights, boots and enthusiasm — and no idea where to start. No agency met them at the airport. No one showed them the sheepfold, the quiet trails, the right table.
“The Carpathians don't need an introduction. Travellers need one.”
Carpathian Base starts here, in the Padina–Peștera valley: one base, eight experiences, three ways to arrive. Long term, we're building the reference platform for exploring the Romanian Carpathians — hiking, nature, local culture and food, valley by valley.
