07 / 08 · Pick a trail
Carpathian Base exists because our foreign friends kept getting lost — not on the mountain, but before it. Flights, boots, enthusiasm: everything except a way in.
01 · Where it starts
The Bucegi in every window
We grew up between Bran and Moroeni, with these mountains as the default view — the thing you check in the morning the way city people check traffic. Summers meant the plateau, sheepfolds and being sent to fetch water; we thought everyone's childhood smelled of spruce and smoked cheese.
02 · The problem
No counter at the airport
Then friends from abroad started visiting, and the same scene repeated: they'd land in Bucharest with hiking boots and a screenshot of the Sphinx, and no idea where to start. No agency met them at arrivals. No one showed them the quiet trails, the right table, the stână that welcomes guests. They'd do Brasov's old town, a crowded cable car, and fly home thinking they'd seen the Carpathians.
03 · The answer
So we built a base
Not a tour company — a base. One valley we know house by house, a handful of experiences we can vouch for personally, and the promise that from the airport gate to the ridge, someone local is holding the thread. We started with friends of friends. Word of mouth did the rest.

The trail so far
The plateau as a backyard. Unpaid apprenticeship in weather, cheese and walking uphill.
Years of unofficial guiding: airport pickups, borrowed cabanas, first foreign guests leaving as evangelists.
Carpathian Base becomes real: one valley, eight experiences, three packages, partners we grew up with.
The reference platform for the Romanian Carpathians — hiking, nature, food and culture, valley by valley. Bucegi is chapter one.
