Accommodation
05 / 08 · Pick a trail
You sleep where the trail ends, in places we'd sleep ourselves — and regularly do. No anonymous hotels: every bed we book is in the valley, run by people we know by first name, with breakfast that assumes you're climbing something after.

Three ways to sleep
Cabana, guesthouse, lodge
Mountain cabana
The honest classic: wood-panelled rooms, shared tables, blankets heavier than your rucksack. Hot water, cold beer, zero pretension. The soundtrack is the river and someone's guitar.
Guesthouse
Family-run pensiuni under the pass: private bathrooms, gardens with plum trees, and hosts whose cooking is the reason some guests come back. Where Ridgeline guests usually sleep.
Mountain lodge
Private rooms, proper linen, a fireplace lounge and a drying room for your boots. Comfort at altitude without turning the mountain into a resort. Full-expedition standard.
The evenings
What nights look like up here
Dinner is long and loud, then the valley goes properly dark — no light pollution, just the Milky Way doing its thing. Most guests are asleep by eleven and awake at seven without an alarm, slightly confused by how good they feel.
Wood fires are lit by October. In winter the snow soaks up every sound and the cabana windows glow orange against the blue evening — the postcard is real, we just live in it.
